Lets all stand together!

Who We Are

STAND Recovery Centre aims to provide safe and secure supported housing for people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction in the Clacton on Sea area. Residents in our service will be supported by staff to become abstinent from drugs and alcohol and rebuild their lives.

What We Do

At STAND Recovery Centre we believe that getting into recovery from drug and alcohol addiction can often be made more difficult by the environment in which we’re living. Things like homelessness or a lack of stable housing and the often chaotic lifestyle can make us feel that even attempting to stop using and drinking is impossible, however while we continue to drink and use there is often little chance that we can find stability. This has certainly been the experience of many of us!

We offer people a chance to get out of this vicious cycle. We can provide you with a room in a house which you will share with others who are beginning recovery from addiction. Staff will be on hand to provide you with personalized support in accessing sources of help in the local community to address your individual needs. In this way we build what we like to call a “Recovery Community” – a group of men and women who are overcoming their own issues and thereby inspiring those around them to do likewise.

A word from our founder

Hi, I’m Darren & I’m the founder of STAND Recovery Centre.

For many years I personally struggled with addiction, trying repeatedly but unsuccessfully to break free from alcohol and drugs. Sometimes I could manage to stop for a few days a week or even a month at a time but I always ended up back where I started.

I didn’t know there was even a thing called recovery!

I was completely lost; trapped in my own mental prison of addiction. I knew I wanted to get clean and that I had to change but just didn’t know-how. I couldn’t see any way out and I was convinced I was going to be a using addict till the day I died.

I hated what I had become.

A lifeline came when I was offered the opportunity to attend rehab. This is where I started my journey and the 12 steps which changed my life.

I’m very grateful for the help I received.

Being in a drug-free environment around other positive people who wanted to get well, combined with being shown a program of action to combat my addiction really helped me.

Unfortunately, my son David was facing the same battle and struggling with his own addiction.

And shortly after I left rehab my son David was sadly found dead from a drug overdose

This is why I started STAND Recovery Centre.

Addiction ruins lives and families. David left a little girl without a father; a grieving partner, sisters, brothers, mother and father - the list goes on and on.

We are passionate beyond belief in helping people that want to break free from addiction and just need a chance.

I want everyone to have the chance I had.

Our model

Based on our experience, we at STAND Recovery Centre believe that abstinence from all mind and mood altering substances is the most effective method for sustaining recovery from addiction. STAND Recovery Centre believes in the 12 step method of addiction recovery and you will be encouraged to engage with this during your stay.

With this in mind, STAND recovery centre is drug and alcohol free. If a resident is found to be doing so, they will unfortunately be asked to leave the property immediately for the safety of the house community as a whole.

When you become a resident, you will be assigned a key worker, who will help you design an individualized plan for how to achieve recovery and other personal goals. You will meet regularly with your key worker throughout your stay to discuss your progress and if there is anything we can do to better support you.

You will also attend regular house meetings of all house residents and staff. This is so we can all come together to discuss how we can best support each other and voice any concerns we may have.
